START HERE · 10 MINUTES

New to preserved gardens?

If you have never specified a preserved garden, or your last one was from someone else, these four links are the whole orientation. After them, the client question "is it real?" will never catch you off guard.

See what a preserved garden or planter insert is Watch the 7-minute introduction video

What the medium is, how quality is judged, why cost of ownership beats first cost. Over 90% of first questions answered.

Understand the material before you present it Read Our Medium

How plants are preserved and why we never use faux or plastic greenery. Read before a client asks "is it real?"

Decide between living, preserved and faux Open the side-by-side comparison

Maintenance, longevity and cost differences. Use it in the first client conversation, before a rendering creates unattainable expectations.

Browse installations by building type Project Gallery · Video Gallery

Filter by corporate, healthcare, hospitality, education, aviation, life sciences or residential. Videos show scale and seams better than stills.

Our promise: no sales call is required to learn the basics. Everything above is open, and none of it asks for your email.

PHASE 1 · CONCEPT

Will it work in my space?

AI renderings now look finished in schematic design, before anyone has checked the skylight, the HVAC schedule or the return-air grille. Check the conditions first, then choose a garden type and a format. This is the phase where we can save you the most embarrassment.

Check whether the garden will thrive in the space Care and display conditions

Temperature, humidity, UV, LED distance, airflow, construction dust. Stairs and atriums under skylights need 99.7% UV- filtering film. Ask us for the Check Before You Spec one-pager.

Choose a garden or planter insert type, with tier levels Garden design categories

Moss and Foliage, Flower Foliage, Moss and Lichen, Story Gardens, Planter Inserts, 3D Biomimicry. Tier levels are explained in each category and filterable.

Pick a format Configurations

Recessed panels, pre-framed (up to 4′ x 8′), on-site picture framing, frameless, ceiling gardens, mobile sanctuaries. No recess? Pre-framed is fastest.

Design planters and workstation greenery Planter Inserts

Special Tier C/1, C/2, C/3 inserts and trees with preserved foliage, with project examples. Minimum vessel depth 3 1/4″.

Eight case studies by challenge: workplace, healing environments, transit, life sciences, learning, veterans. Brief, design, outcome.

Our promise: send us a plan and a phone photo and we tell you the bad news first: can we do it, can we deliver by your date, what it costs. The product story comes after, if it still applies.

PHASE 2 · DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Samples, brochures and a budget I can actually use

Sample libraries are shrinking, you order per project now, and a sample with no price tier is a sample you cannot act on. Order what this project needs, download presentation-ready files, and get a real budget range from a real person within 24 hours.

Fulfilled by Material Bank, or order on Material Bank directly. Four types: Moss Combinations, Foliage, Lichen, Flower Foliage. Tell us the phase; we time the follow-up to it.

Download brochures, plant library, mood boards Hub Downloads HUB

Four design brochures, the plant library flipbook and mood board templates in presentation-ready formats.

Understand the design-to-install workflow Our Process · Execution Matters

Design, fabrication, installation, field verification, closeout, 7- year warranty. Send it to the PM who asks "who does what?"

Get a budget range for design development Contact: Design Development and Budgeting

Choose the Architects and Interior Designers option. Give phase, application, approximate size, budget range and real dates; you get three curated options with pricing in one reply.

Our promise: every inquiry is acknowledged within 24 hours, even when the full answer takes longer. When we follow up, we ask where the project is and when it is useful to reconnect. Never "just checking in."

PHASE 3 · SPECIFICATION

The spec, and the paperwork that survives review

Designers have a good radar for greenwashing and want evidence, not adjectives. Every sustainability and material health claim we make sits on a third-party document. This is where you collect them, plus the three-part spec and CAD.

CSI Section 09 77 00 (wall gardens) and 12 92 00 (planter inserts). Keep the "no substitutions" language; it is what defends the spec.

Pull the sustainability and material health documents Sustainability Standards · Hub Downloads

HPD, Declare (Red List Free), CDPH VOC, ASTM D6866 bio- based, EPD, LEED guide. Ask us for the ASTM E84 whole- system report and the Healthy Interiors statement; issued to your firm by project.

Cite the EPD correctly EPD announcement

The wording that survives review: "a cradle-to-grave EPD with negative cradle-to-gate embodied carbon." The only published EPD in the preserved botanical category.

Screen a competing product for greenwashing and compliance Wayfinding to avoid greenwashing · ComparisonTable

Ask any supplier for whole-system fire testing (not lichen only), full-system HPD to 100 ppm, full-system Declare, an EPD, a written warranty.

Explain the circular economy story Commitment to circular economy

Mechanical, never adhesive, mounting keeps panels salvageable; the Re-Leaf take-back program handles end of life.

Our promise: every document you need for a submittal exists and is current. If it is not on the site, one email gets it to you the same business day, issued to your firm for your project.

PHASE 4 · VALUE ENGINEERING

The day the VE list appears

The most useful thing a manufacturer can do is help you look smart in front of the owner. When a preserved garden is questioned on cost, or a faux-plant swap shows up as "equal," these pages give you the language, the numbers and the evidence. Owners read two pages; send the executive summary, not the paper.

Put the checkmark table in front of the owner Download the Comparison Table · The Value We Bring

One page, 24 criteria, Garden on the Wall® against 46 other suppliers: fire, material health, lifecycle, installation, procurement. Attach it the same day.

Score the vendors on your own project Fillable vendor scoresheet

Same criteria, blank. Fill in any supplier proposed as "equal" and let the owner see the empty boxes.

Give the owner language for the budget conversation White papers and executive summaries

Two-page summaries by sector, written for owners, owner’s reps and facilities teams. Match the sector to the project.

Productivity and asset value; clinician burnout and infection control; learning and attention; passenger stress; sensory load and acoustics (NRC 0.44, all garden types).

Stop a faux-plant value-engineering swap Hidden Cost of Cheap Faux Plants

What is inside plastic greenery, what it costs over a lease term, and why it fails the biophilic brief.

Show why quality and longevity decide cost of ownership Quality Matters · Expertise by Numbers · Awards

10 to 12 years without rejuvenation, 20+ with it, 7-year warranty, 19+ gardens replaced from other suppliers. 2,000+ installations, 1,200+ firms, 460+ award-winning projects.

Our promise: if your spec is being value-engineered, tell us. You get an owner-ready cost-of-ownership case for that project within two business days, and we join the call if it helps.

PHASE 5 · CONSTRUCTION

Quote, coordinate, install

The relationship should not end at the specification. Ours does not. We contract directly with the GC or owner, our own employees install, and one of us is reachable through construction administration and the punch list.

Get a formal quote for the owner or GC Contact: Request a Formal Quote

Choose the General Contractors option. GOTW contracts directly as a turnkey FF&E subcontractor with its own OSHA 30 crews.

Coordinate backing, recess and sequencing Execution Matters

3/4″ plywood backing by GC, minimum 1″ recess for seamless edges, install after final clean. Shop drawings are field-verified before fabrication.

Know who is on site Trusted Implementation Network

GOTW-employed installers, never subcontracted. Certificate of insurance and pre-qualification with 1,000+ GCs on request.

Our promise: you will know the name and phone number of the person managing your installation before we are on site, and we solve field issues rather than pointing at the drawings.

PHASE 6 · OCCUPANCY

Year one to year twenty

A preserved garden that is installed and forgotten is doing its job. The few things that can go wrong (a weekend HVAC shutoff, a skylight without film, a facilities crew with a spray bottle) are avoidable, and we would rather hear about a concern in year two than never.

Hand the facilities team the care sheet Care Instructions

Annual leaf-blower dusting from 2 to 3 feet, no liquids, no canned air, keep HVAC on. A condition of the 7-year warranty. We train maintenance staff at closeout.

Plan for year 10 and beyond Tune-up and rejuvenation

On-site rejuvenation for light or UV wear is how installations reach 20+ years. Ask before a relocation or renovation; panels are salvageable.

Report a concern Contact us

Tell us the project and send a photo.

Our promise: the warranty is seven years and the relationship is longer. A garden we installed a decade ago is still our garden; call us before a relocation, a renovation or a rejuvenation.

ANYTIME · LEARNING

Earn HSW credit, read the research

Lunch and learns are still the number one way designers want to see manufacturers, and CEUs are number three. We combine them. An accredited hour on biophilic design, neuroaesthetics or material transparency is a calendar invitation away.

What you can hold us to

  1. No sales call to learn the basics. The orientation is open and asks for nothing.
  2. Bad news first. Send a plan and a phone photo; we tell you whether it works, whether we can deliver by your date, and what it costs, before the product story.
  3. Acknowledgment within 24 hours, even when the full answer takes longer. Follow-ups ask where the project is, never "just checking in."
  4. Every submittal document exists and is current. If it is not on the site, one email gets it to you the same business day.
  5. An owner-ready cost-of-ownership case within two business days when your spec is being value- engineered, and we join the call if it helps.
  6. A named installation manager with a phone number before we are on site, and field problems solved rather than pointed at.

Why this guide is organized the way it is

In 2026, interior designers across the country were asked, in surveys and candid roundtables, what they actually want from manufacturers and their reps. The answers were remarkably consistent: save my time, know your product cold, tell me the bad news first, make samples easy, give me evidence I can hand to my client, and do not disappear after the spec. One answer stuck with us: “Shift from ‘let me show you what we have’ to ‘tell me what you are solving.’ Then curate. Three options, not thirty.” So this guide is organized around what you are solving, not around what we have, and it ends with promises rather than a product list.

Websites change and so will this guide. It is versioned on purpose: if a link does not resolve, email Can and the current version comes back the same day. v2.1 reflects gardenonthewall.com as of September 2026. Links marked HUB require the Designers Hub access code (work email on the access page; code arrives by email).
