Garden on the Wall® Contributes to AIA Award Win
Fairfield, NJ – Garden on the Wall (GOTW) announced today that one of the firm’s installations contributed to a Merit Award for Excellence in Interior Design from the American Institute of Architects (AIA). The award was presented to RLPS Architects by the Central Pennsylvania chapter of the AIA for their re-creation of the Southern Lancaster Market building in Lancaster, PA. Converting the space into a mixed-use food hall, office space, and more, the interior design features an indoor garden installation by GOTW.
“This is a feel-good win and we’re so proud to be a part of it,” said GOTW’s Mine Hisim Founder & Managing Partner. “RLPS did a great job reimagining the space, and we were thrilled to install our compelling garden, which takes center stage.” The firm’s wide-ranging expertise in attractive and human-centric biophilic installations has gained notoriety in the design industry, across workplace, healthcare, corporate, hospitality, and transportation facility types. Increasingly, mixed-use spaces are the focus of projects nationwide, something Hisim says is a natural for GOTW too, as the benefits of biophilia transcend all of these categories.
“This redesign was recognized for its aesthetics, functionality, and elevated human experience in its repurposing of an outmoded facility into a useful space for modern sensibilities,” continued Hisim. “Biophilia is the perfect element to elevate a design’s aesthetics, and contributes to the space’s attributes that cause a positive emotional response. Our expertise in enhancing the neuroarchitecture of spaces has grown considerably, as the industry recognizes the benefits of indoor nature as a soothing, restful oasis, and also a positive catalyst for rejuvenation and inspiration.”
GOTW’s installation at the market food hall anchors on end of the vaulted space high above the floor, encased in custom wood millwork. Comprised of forest, fern, and moss species, the installation displays a natural, appealing composition of biodiverse elements to attract interest, and absorb sound. “This is a win for all parties,” said Hisim, “especially the local community who gets to enjoy this rejuvenated space refreshed with GOTW’s biophilia.”
