BNY Mellon Breakout Area

Garden on the Wall® transformed the break area connecting six meeting rooms at this historic New York City financial institution America’s oldest bank and the longest continuously operating financial services company in the city into a vibrant biophilic retreat. The corridor, furnished with a runner carpet and comfortable seating, now serves as an inviting pause point where employees naturally gather, recharge, and engage with colleagues. The preserved garden becomes the focal backdrop of this space, its frame perfectly aligned with the wood-slat ceiling and integrated lighting for a clean, architectural fit.

The installation features a contemporary blend of moss and lichen arranged in a vivid, textural composition that adds movement, color, and energy to the environment.

With the thoughtful integration of biophilia, this once-simple passageway is reimagined as a restorative micro-retreat an everyday touchpoint that reinforces the firm’s commitment to creating spaces that energize, support, and connect the people behind its enduring legacy.
