A Sculptural Expression of Nature

At Thoma Bravo’s Miami lobby, what was once an unremarkable void beneath a spiral staircase has been transformed into a mesmerizing statement of design and innovation. Garden on the Wall®’s 3D Biomimicry Garden turns this overlooked corner into a captivating focal point—an artistic expression of fluidity and calm inspired by the gentle ripples of water.

From Terrain to Topography

The project began when the Perkins&Will design team sought to bring a sculptural garden feature echoing natural topography of earth to the base of the staircase. After learning about Garden on the Wall®’s 3D Biomimicry Gardens—an innovative product line introduced in 2024—the team reimagined the concept to depict ripples radiating across water as if a pebble had been dropped at its center. The garden’s undulating form was digitally modeled in Rhino with a Grasshopper plug-in and CNC-cut to achieve nature’s organic geometry with remarkable precision.

Design Meets Detail

Seamlessly integrating with the surrounding seashell-like planter box structure, the composition achieves a sense of visual harmony and motion. The installation’s preserved moss were carefully layered to emulate the gradations of a water surface, while black pebble accents evoke the look of waves reaching the shore. The result is a sculptural piece that appears to move, even as it remains still an extraordinary application of biophilic design and biomimicry in interior architecture.

The Art and Science of Biomimicry

Biomimicry, defined as the practice of emulating nature’s time-tested forms and processes to solve human design challenges, serves as the foundation of this installation. At Garden on the Wall®, the 3D Biomimicry Gardens extend this principle by using preserved foliage and moss sculpted into three-dimensional forms creating immersive, maintenance-free environments that reconnect people with nature.

A New Dimension of Biophilic Design

The Thoma Bravo installation showcases how technology and craftsmanship can merge to achieve an elevated biophilic effect. The piece not only complements the architectural beauty of the spiral staircase but also transforms the surrounding space into an experience of wonder proving that even the smallest spaces can make the biggest design impact.
